Local Care Home Manager Recognised for Outstanding Leadership

A Sanctuary Care home manager from Birmingham has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and devotion to enriching lives through exceptional care.Β

Joanne Sheppard, Home Manager at Redhill Court Residential Care Home in Kings Norton, has been named a finalist in the Registered Manager of the Year category at the Care Home Professional Leaders in Care Awards 2026, which celebrate excellence across the care sector.Β Β

Joanne has led Redhill Court for almost a decade, building a culture where residents, families and colleagues are valued, supported and empowered to have a very active role in how the home is run. One of her biggest passions has been supporting residents to continue using their lifelong skills and interests, whether that's baking, gardening, helping with maintenance projects or contributing to decisions about life at the home.Β Β

Her commitment to helping people to thrive extends to colleagues too, with many team members progressing their careers through opportunities and mentorship she has provided.Β Β

Under her leadership, the home has earned recognition as one of the region's leading care homes, including a Top 20 Care Homes West Midlands award on the CareHome website.Β Β

The nomination also highlighted Joanne's compassion and unwavering support for residents, families and colleagues. Her leadership has helped create a home where staff retention is exceptionally strong and where residents and their loved ones describe the atmosphere as being like an extended family.Β Β

Joanne said:

I am absolutely delighted and very humbled to be shortlisted for this award. Any recognition like this is really a reflection of the incredible team I have the privilege of working alongside every day. They are truly dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents and their families, and I am so proud of what we achieve together.Β

Redhill Court is a very special place because of the people in it. Seeing residents continue to live meaningful lives, watching colleagues develop their confidence and careers, and supporting families through every stage of their journey is what makes this role so rewarding. It is an honour to be shortlisted, and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of that journey.

The Care Home Professional Leaders in Care Awards recognise individuals and organisations making an exceptional contribution to the care sector. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on 6 October 2026.Β
