Local Hockey Star Ffion Jones Heads to South Africa for World Masters Cup

Published:

Ffion Jones, a local hockey player of Edgbaston Hockey Club and talented goalkeeper will be taking to the pitch to represent her country of Wales in Capetown, South Africa competing in the World Hockey Masters World Cup.

This is more than just a tournament – it’s a celebration of hockey, passion, and community worldwide.

With 100 teams, over 2,100 participants, 4 venues, and 7 turfs ready for action, Cape Town will be alive with the energy of Masters Hockey like never before.

Ffion is part of a 18 player squad from different parts of the country, but all share the commonality of Welsh Heritage. The squad will be opening the competition against Zimbabwe, and taking on Scotland and New Zealand to conclude the pool matches in the start of their journey.

Field hockey is known for it’s true commitment to lifelong participation and beyond this over 35s squad, there are teams competing at every 5 years age groups up until over 80’s and this is internationally.

This is a very special conclusion of a hard working journey for the squad, which to note that they all self fund too, due to the little amount of funding available in field hockey.

The squad are very keen to spread the word about the success of getting to the World Cup, and as current bronze medallists from 2022, are keen to get as much support from local communities as possible, as they can watch from home via a live stream.
