Brad Kella self-taught pianist who won Channel 4 The Piano 2024, shares his foster care story in a new campaign from the members of the Fairer Fostering Partnership.
Raising awareness of the critical need for more people to step up as foster carers across every town and city in the UK. Placed in foster care at the age of seven, now, through this film, he’s telling his story to help others understand just how life-changing foster care can be.
“The impact that fostering’s had on my life – I can’t even put it into words. If you’re out there thinking about fostering a child, don’t think about it – just do it. Because you’re not just making an impact for that child, you’re making a massive impact for the society around you.” says Brad.

The UK foster care system faces unprecedented pressure. There are now 104,358 children in care away from home, with 68,000 living with around 52,000 foster families – two-thirds of all children in care. But the number of carers is not keeping pace with growing need.
“Right now, there are children across England who need someone to stand by them, believe in them, and give them a place to call home. We urgently need more foster carers to join the Foster Care Charity family — to offer love, stability, and a fresh start. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the time to take that step and change a child’s life forever.” said Steve Field, Director of Child Care for The Foster Care Charity
